Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. This page lists the ones this site uses, what they are for, and how to refuse the ones you do not want.
What cookies are
A cookie holds a unique identifier, the domain that set it, and small pieces of data. Some last only while your browser is open (session cookies); others stay for a set period (persistent cookies). This site also uses local storage in your browser to remember whether you have answered the cookie notice, and that data never leaves your device.
The cookies we use
- Strictly necessary. What the site cannot work without: the session cookie that protects the forms you submit, load balancing, and the security token that guards against cross-site request forgery. These cannot be switched off.
- Functional. Your preferences: the language you chose on a policy page, dismissed notices, and other settings that make the site behave the way you left it.
- Analytics. Google Analytics, which tells us which pages are read and where readers stop. It sets cookies such as
_gaand_gidand records your IP address in truncated form. - Advertising and measurement. The Meta (Facebook) Pixel, used to measure campaigns and to build audiences for our own advertising, setting cookies such as
_fbp. These load only with consent. - Support and chat. Our chat and ticketing system uses cookies and local storage to keep a conversation alive and to recognise you on a return visit. You can ask us not to keep the transcript.
Choosing and refusing
- Non-essential cookies are used only where consent has been given. Where consent is required, we ask before they load.
- Change your mind at any time through Cookie settings in the footer of any page on this site.
- Your browser can block or delete cookies, and can be set to warn you before one is stored. Every major browser documents this in its help pages, and internetcookies.org describes it for a wide range of browsers and devices.
- Blocking everything will break parts of the site, particularly forms and the pages you must log in to.
- You can also opt out at the source, using Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, Google Ads settings, or Meta's ad preferences.
- Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat it as a refusal of non-essential cookies.
Third parties
The providers behind these cookies may be outside Bangladesh, and their own privacy and cookie policies govern what they do with the data they see. We choose providers that offer contractual data protection, and we name every category above rather than describing them vaguely.
Review and changes
This policy is reviewed at least once a year and whenever the cookies the site sets change. The date at the top of the page is the last review.
